Tūrama - to illuminate

This July, Auckland’s inner city is set to be transformed into an immersive art experience for Tūrama Festival - an enchanting world of light inhabiting Albert Park.

Tūrama Festival is a playground for the curious, featuring artworks created by our unique voices, ranging from performance to sculpture, imaginative illumination to interactive installation. Alongside the artworks you are invited to savour the delicious, healthy kai on offer whilst being entertained by a laid back lineup of our homegrown musical talent.

Tūrama Festival is a free-to-attend event taking place in Albert Park, 26 - 28 July 2019. The park will be lit up from 5 - 10pm each evening.

Albert Park will be brought to life by twenty-five extraordinary installations, spanning from the Auckland Art Gallery through to the iconic Band Rotunda.

Strut your stuff down a catwalk of light, seek your fortune in an interactive wishing well, or compose your own audio visual spectacle - there are plenty of illuminating adventures for everyone to enjoy.

Interactivity is a core focus of our inaugural festival and you will find an abundance of works that react to your movements, put the controls in your hands, or invite you to walk within their dazzling displays.

Come along and be charmed by the cheeky Tūrama characters roaming through the crowds, or catch a glimpse of shimmering creatures peering out from the trees...

Accessibility Tours

Audio Described Aotearoa will be working alongside the Tūrama Festival team to provide a unique tour of the festival for those who are blind, have low vision, or are otherwise visually impaired. These free to attend tours will move through the park providing an audio description of the artworks and meeting with the artists behind the works.

We’re currently working on a unique tour designed for those with impaired hearing. This tour will include a guided walk through the artworks of the festival, with exclusive meet and greets with some of the artists. This tour is lead by a sign language interpreter.

Send us a message using the link below if you’d like to join either our Sign Language or Audio Described tour on Thursday 25 July.

Our Kaupapa

Refuse, Reuse, Recycle

We’re committed to doing right by our little country and the greater good of the planet. As Tūrama evolves, we’ll be developing and trialling some smart and simple ways in which we can do our part (and more) to clean up the world.

Starting with the core policy of refuse first, we’re working with industry leaders to trial the next level of reusable serveware to cut down on the amount of single-use items we use.

You too can help make a difference. Bring your keep cup, water bottle, even a plate to eat from! Let’s minimise single use together.

We want everyone to experience and enjoy our festival as much as possible. To do this we’re working with a couple of key partners to provide access to those who need just a little bit extra. We will be running Audio Described and Sign Language tours for our hearing and vision impaired communities on Thursday 25 July. If either of these tours are for you please get in touch.

Tūrama is Auckland's newest arts festival, set to enliven a quiet spot in the city’s events calendar with interactive art pieces, performance art, and a quirky mix of musical talent.
